NTP Playing Cards Review

NTP cards are made in Italy and have a stiff, plastic, and sandpaper feel to them. The feel is a combination of a Modiano playing card and a Gemaco card. They have the thickness and texture of a Modiano card, but the plastic feeling of a Gemaco. There is a bit of a heavy new card smell to the NTP decks, but the smell was not too bad and quickly went away.

NTP Blak Jack Playing Cards

The NTP Blak Jack cards are similar to the NTP Bridge cards shown at the top of this page, except for the poker size and the yellow colored background on every non-face card. I like colored backgrounds on playing cards, I feel that they add a bit of class to the design. I also like large index cards and security ink cards. So, in general, I really like these Blak Jack cards. NTP has proven to be some of the best cards available and the Blak Jack design makes their selection even better. This deck is available in four different colors - red, blue, green, and yellow!

The numbers and pips on the Blak Jack cards are very large, even for a large index card. They are almost a cross between a large index and a magnum index. I like the size and thickness of this index, it is a bit bolder and easier to read than other large index cards. The red is a dark security ink. The design on the back is okay, but is a little old fashioned. The feel and texture of the card is excellent and is similar to the other NTP cards reviewed above.

These cards come in cardboard single boxes. The box is okay, but is definitely nothing special. The deck includes 52 cards, 3 jokers, and 1 replacement information card (in Italian). The cost is $11 per deck.

NTP Bridge Regular Index Playing Cards

NTP cards are made in Italy. They have a stiff, plastic, and sandpaper feel to them. The feel is like a cross between a Modiano playing card and a Gemaco card. It has the thickness and texture of a Modiano card, but the plastic feeling of a Gemaco.

The color of the NTP Bridge Jumbo Index cards is a dark security red. The colors on the other two decks reviewed here are also dark, but not as dark as the Jumbo deck. I have listed the ink color as "Regular" for the NTP Bridge Regular Index and Poker Long Life cards, but the red color is darker and deeper than other regular ink cards.

There is no background color in the center (boxed) area of the NTP Bridge Jumbo Index cards. Many similar jumbo index cards have a yellow or beige background color in the center area but this card is a bit plain. The typeface on the regular index cards is a bit small and blocky but this is typical of many cards manufactured in Europe. The Jumbo Index cards have very nice large pips that look lovely.

The NTP Bridge playing cards come in very nice black plastic boxes. The boxes are similar to the Kem and Copag plastic boxes except they are a little more square and boxy. They stack well and the lid stays closed without problem. There is a black plastic divider to keep the two decks separate. These are nice card boxes.

There is a bit of a new card smell to the NTP decks, but the smell was not too bad and quickly went away. The price is $11 per deck, which is a high price, but you get a very nice card.

NTP Floreale Long Life Playing Cards

The NTP Poker Long Life playing cards are the largest cards that I have reviewed. They are 2-3mm wider and longer than most other poker size playing cards. I noticed a huge difference in the width when I handled this deck of cards. This deck is definitely not recommended for anyone with small hands. I am six feet tall and these cards were probably a bit too large for me to handle comfortably. The other brands of NTP cards are also a bit larger than normal, but nowhere near as large as these Long Life cards.

These cards are also some of the thickest cards that I have reviewed. They are not much stiffer than other NTP cards, but they do have a very square and boxy feel to them.

These are four-pip cards with a dark red color ink, although not quite as dark as a security ink. The design on the back is quite nice.

NTP Poker Long Life playing cards come in black plastic single-deck boxes. These boxes are a bit wider than most single-deck boxes to accommodate the extra width of the NTP Poker Long Life cards. The single-deck boxes have the same fault as the Piatnik 1360 single-deck boxes - the top cover has sides that extend all the way down to the bottom of the lower cover. This means when you try to lift the box from the table, you end up lifting the top cover off from the bottom cover. Other than that, these are actually very nice plastic card boxes! They are boxy and sturdy, and of course, large in size to accommodate the larger than normal NTP Long Life cards.
